hi,
I try to install a 9,1 GB harddisk to my SE/30 but I just can't get that &%$#^&@ thing to work... :(
the problem is that the computer can't recognize the drive even though several websites say it should work.
I formated the quantum in an beige G3 in standard format (HFS) but it still doesn't work.
- the machine is supposed to run system 7.5
- the HD is a Quantum Atlas V ultra160 SCSI
can anybody help me before I give it to an Apple dealer to have it installed by a technician?
thanks

For my 2 cents....I love my new iMac. I had a Dual 2.0 PM G5, and am much happier with the new machine. The old machine was very fast, but I was using it on my old 17" Apple CRT. I love the bigger screen space, and it doesn't seem to be too much slower than the dual 2.0 (for what I do, which is not Photoshop stuff, mainly web surfing, MS Office work, etc...). I am going to be upgrading the ram soon (once I sell the sticks from my old PMG5) and I think this will make a huge difference in performance for me. I was able to return my PMG5 to Compusa, due to their awesome customer service people, and buy a iMac 20", a 15" Powerbook for the price of my old G5 and the 20" monitor. I think you can't go wrong with the iMac!

I notice that a few here already have received their new refreshed 2011 iMacs.
Can you please give the rest of us an assessment of any screen issues.
eg. yellowing/smudges/dead pixels that plagued some of the 2010 iMacs.
Thanks..

Recently I've started getting Safari Windows with just ads, something I used to hate on Windows.
What's the best free Malware scanner for Mac?

Thanks for that fast reply, it's coming up saying the mac server has rejected the password. Does that not mean the password I've forgotten is for the mac server? I know the password for my gmail, I've tested it on my windows computer.

Just need confirmation of this:
I have 6Gb of Apple supplied memory that was in my Mac Pro.
I'm planning on making an Un-Raid server with AMD Athlon chips.
For ECC to be enabled the DIMMs have to be un-registered and un-buffered.
I know they are un-buffered, but if they are un-registered is the issue.
I gather sub 8Gb sticks are un-registered, but 8Gb+ are?
Given that these are 2Gb sticks (3x2Gb) are they registered or not!?
Cheers!

All the jailbreak info I see is on 4.2.1 or 4.3.2. I assume I can not upgrade to 4.3.2 as I have no blobs and I assume 4.3.3 is what Apple is signing. what am I missing on 4.3.1?
I'm downloading redsnow for 4.31 and the 4.3.1 FW. DO i have any options to upgrade the FW and still jailbreak?

hey edesignuk, thank u so much for ur reply!
ya, do u think it's a RAM issue? i thought it might have to be cuz there's not much else it could be, but i didn't think it'd act the way it is... i have a dual 1.8 G5, but i dunno if i could use that RAM cuz it's PC3200, 400 MHZ.. it wouldn't work in the G4, right?
and what's "HDD"?
HDD = Hard disk drive ;)
A 400MHz G4 uses either SD100 or SD133 memory IIRC, so no, the DDR3200 wouldn't work (it wouldn't even fit!).

That's a song by the Beatles.
Could I play it through bookshelf speakers, connected to a receiver, connected to the Mac via usb 2.0 with the above device?

The guides category needs some better organization IMO.
We should decide if we want almost everything in sub-categories or most of it just in the guide category itself. I think having it half-half just confuses users and makes articles harder to find.
We should use the distinction between subcategories and the actual category to distinguish between more "important" and less "important" guides.
In an attempt to make the Mac Beginner's Guide more prominent I added a sub-category but I don't know whether this would be the best way to go about it, so before I do anything else I think we should talk about how we want to organize this category.
So feel free to delete the subcategory I created until we figure something out.

I got handbrake, but I don't see the option to customize the resolution. I'm probably just over looking it.
That would be under the big 'picture settings' button at the top.
