I really think the camera has to be able to swivel in some way if we want to be able to take pictures of stuff in front of us while looking at the screen, and have video chats too I don't recall seeing decent mock-ups that address this issue.

My Sprint Samsung A900 does that.

I too am hanging out for a new MBA model before I jump in, and a backlit keyboard is the top of my list of must-have features. We have two unibody 2008 MacBooks in the house, only one of which has a backlit keyboard and not being a touch typist I really miss it when I use the other MacBook by mistake.

Anyway... has anyone else noticed that Apple will have a tricky design problem on their hands if they were to introduce a backlit keyboard into the new MBA design? Basically, they've got no room for the keyboard brightness keys!

When they brought out the 2010 MBA, they ditched the circular power button and added in a new 'power' key, to the right of the eject key. However this means that all the function keys have had their functions 'shifted' to the left, which was possible because there's no keyboard brightness up or down buttons needed in the function keys.

    MacBook Pro

Wanna bet that Napa64 is 100% identical to ordinary Napa, apart from the fact that the CPU is Merom, instead of Yonah? Since Napa is a platform, just chaning the CPU to something else would mean that the platform has been refreshed.
    You may be right.

I couldn't find anything in the Intel technical documentation on the 945 to show a new revision or stepping of the chip - in fact most of the 945 docs at the Intel website don't mention the Core 2 at all....

i'm sorry but the 30G iPod has a stupid price. If someone is that tight and has to get an iPod, they would probably buy used.

there are plenty of reasons people might avoid buying a used ipod, or simply want a new one.

speaking for those of us who are, as you put it, "tight," i for one would appreciate it if you... didn't.

$350 is 40% more than $250. to some of us, that's a lot. i think apple understands that, and probably has some pretty damn good data behind their pricing scheme.

i have to say, reading all these whiny complaints, everyone sounds like Comic Book Store Guy from the simpsons. i don't get where exactly the sense of entitlement comes from? i mean, obviously they're doing the best they can... what, are they holding back some awesome features, just to piss you off?

    Sounds great!

Maybe we'll see a new Mini with Thunderbolt and an SSD option during the same time frame!

Granted, this is a good thing.

But does anyone else find it ironic that the iPods in question are being made by people who according to media reports could use this type of financial subsidization as well?

This could be either really big or really bad. Either way, I don't see it going over to well without a burn to DVD option. It also needs a settop media mac. Either way, it'll be interesting to see how everything develops. Good thing I'll be in Milwaukee on the 12th. I might want to go to Mayfair to see how everything went.
I live in Milwaukee so maybe I'll see you at Mayfar on the 12th. :)

Now read through the rest of the posts after that and discover that Finder does not support Cut and Paste.

There are plugins for that. Works fine on my Mac.

God, you people pretend as if there weren't any solutions to common problems out there. It's nice if certain features are there out of the box, but people who actually miss CUT+Paste are smart enough to install a simple tool.

Personally, I like the XP+Win7 Explorer better than the Finder.
However, both of them could very well do with tabs.
But you may guess: there are plugins for that. Good ones.
I wouldn't wanna miss that feature!

You know I read these things all the time about how the Windows Phone OS is picking up steam or how many Android units there are out there... I'm not even sure anyone at Apple really cares about these numbers because we're talking about dozens of handsets using those OS's vs a single phone on iOS.

I guess the comparison is important to some people, but until Apple is also making nine different phones, the numbers will never stack up. So what.

Creative does not have 100 mil to blow on lawyers. Either way you look at it, apple legal cost would not have approached 100 mil.
Even though the SCO case is not a patent dispute, it's a good example of how a company with pending legal disputes with potentially big outcomes can always find sources to finance their lawsuits.

I have no problem with Greenpeace being at the show as long as they back up their findings with facts and conduct themselves in a civil manner. If Microsoft stepped out of line at the show, I would expect them to be kicked out of the show as well.

agreed. Apple should work hard to be a environmentally safe company, but that should stand for all companies too. i don't see why any one single company should be singled out at this point.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5)

I was under the understanding that the reason that the current 320M has been so impressive considering the aging Duel Core CPU was the increased speed of data transfer from the SSD meaning a large increase in efficiency in both the CPU and the GPU.

So surely it stands to reason that if the intergrated GPU of Sandy Bridge is only slightly less powerful than the current 320M but will be partnered with the SSD and a MASSIVELY more powerful CPU then the sandy bridge MBA will be at least as powerful in graphics terms than the currant MBA.

Am I just being stupid thinking that?

Shame that everyone is going to jump to conclusions rather than work out why this is stored.

And really, would you rather have the information stored on the device or logged by Google?

I read a good tweet about this:

Password protect your phone. Password protect your computer. Nothing has changed.

The iPhone is sold on how easy it is to use and that you don't have to fiddle with things. But it's shown time and time again that despite everything they do to keep it as simple and user friendy as possible, it's not true.

Most iPhone users won't have a clue about how to do this. If Apple had actually encrypted the file this wouldn't have been this huge problem.

The difference is that Apple can veto the very concept of the app, after the fact. E.g.: google voice clients, podcast receivers, etc. (the list of examples is quite long). There's a difference between requiring a late tweak and vetoing the core functionality of the app.

    I agree with that. ;)

Yet, that is not the case this time, or I'd say, for the majority of rejections. Apple most of the time allows you to make the necessary changes, as odd as they may seem.

I've lusted after the Unibody design ever since it came out just after I got my early 2008 MBP, and I finally caved in this year and got a 17" 2011 MBP. Seemed like the right time. I'm glad I now have what might be the last of the Unibody designs!

Or will they even bother calling it iTunes at all... :p

Thunderbolt will never replace USB because they serve different functions. You will never see low-bandwidth devices such as keyboard/mice/USB stick using thunderbolt because it doesn't make sense.

Yes but why would these devices move to USB3 either?
Most are happy on USB1 or 2. with no demand for 3.
If they have the market for features then Wireless is the most attractive up sell for most of them over faster wires. So Low bandwidth devices are either going to stay USB 2 or go wireless.

Low bandwidth is really a moot point, it's high bandwidth that drives wired connections.
