Uhhh, GS/OS?
I use Apple DOS 3.3....
You can't use a 800k diskette with DOS 3.3. You need to move up to at least ProDOS - it's the first OS that really understands how to use it.

I just switched too being a windows admin myself. Most things you do won't be a problem. Use Dreamweaver MX which was previously Homesite on PC for coding asp.
As for running visual studio, well, don't know how well that'll work on VPC. But then, there is remote desktop for mac. Load up visual studio on a server and use you remote desktop to open up the program on the server.
Remote desktop, it's the best thing that Microsoft ever did for Apple. Download it before M$ takes it down!

The 400mhz iMac has no fans. Technically the only moving part is the hard drive, and that could be making a buzzing sound, although its usually more of a high pitched whine. The only other part that would buzz is the CRT or power supply, and those are usually not repairable. Replacement parts are also expensive.
Damn, that sucks. Son's birthday present is locking up on OS9 also. I can move the mouse, but no keyboard commands work, and can't get to any of the menus.
Going to try to load Panther and see what happens.
I'll also be opening it up to make sure everything is secure and cleaned up.

I'm having trouble from my home network with one website... just one!
www.weightwatchers.com will not load properly at home... it times out... consistently.
I took my macbook to the apple store, and the website worked without fail, but when I got home... fail. Just to verify this, I've taken my computer to several public networks and the site works fine as well. My work computer and my wife's work computer also consistently run the site without problem.
This problem has been going on for weeks, so i would be hard pressed to say that this is the host website's issue.
So perhaps it is my network at home. BTW, weightwatchers.com is the only site that does not run properly on my computer. Every other website i visit on my home network works fine.
I had thought that perhaps my wireless router (linksys wt160n) was having some type of issue and thought of replacing it with Airport extreem, but when I plug directly into the cable modem i get the same problem so I'm concerned that this wont fix the problem... only cause me to throw more $$ at the problem.
I've discussed the problem with my internet provider (charter communications), but everything looks fine from their end. I've considered increasing my internet connection speed from 16 megs to something higher, but I'm skeptical that this will really solve anything. I previously ran at 3 megs, and when the charter tech upgraded my connection speed to 16 megs... the website worked fine at home for a little while, then suddenly stopped.
I considered that this may just be a mac issue, but when i pulled out my windows xp machine, it had the same problems.

What is the point of google voice exactly?
how does it work?
Can u actually use that number to make calls and not get charged on your minutes?
also is there a monthly charge for the service?
kind of confused as to what the purpose is and how it works?

Well, I may go back to my country for the same reasons. I came to the US in January las year. I spent about 40 thousand $$$ already and not good opportunities to work. New York left me traumatized and Miami is a desert.

So will any Macbook Pro with an SSD basically be faster than a Macbook Air 2nd gen? Has Apple done something fundamentally from the ground up with the design/firmware that makes the MBA as fast as it is?
I guess my question is, can you expect 13 second boot-up time, 3 second shut down time and instant on that I am currently getting with my MBA if I buy a MBP with an SSD? Or do I have to wait for a MBP that has been exclusively designed to take advantage of the SSD's speed and not one that just offers the SSD as a drop-in option?

It's very possible. But I guess with IBM powering the new Xbox 360 with the PowerPC cores (oh the irony) I guess they figured they didn't feel like talking him out of moving again.
I'm excited about the intel switch aside from one thing. I wanted to see a G5 Powerbook. Oh well.

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone out there knows of a place to investigate various PDA's as a friend of mine's mother want to buy her son one (he's 29 :) )but knows nothing about them, so she asked me but it's not something I really know too much about either.
He's a pc user so mac compatability isn't really needed.
Any help would be appreciated as most of the site's I've found are useless.
Thanks

MySQL really should be run from a Server, or something that is on 24/7 with internet access.
The way MySQL works with PHP is you set a few variables (hostname, username, password, database) for PHP to use to connect. The hostname is whats most important here. If you did run MySQL from your computer, then you'd need a static IP address for that computer. Then you could simply set the hostname to that IP e.g. 192.12.123.52 etc.
I'd suggest looking for a host that already has MySQL/PHP installed, as it could potentially be much less hassle.

No price drops yet, or powerbook update, when do you think any of them will happen?
Thank you,
igmolinav.
I'm expecting updates this week to occur along with Paris Expo 9/20 - 24. Update possible tomorrow. Most of the time Apple increases the specifications and nether lowers or raises the price. The older version usually gets a lower price though.
