And next week there will be a new survey that says the opposite. These reports are getting old. Must be a slow news day.

You can already make a bootable USB thumb drive/DVD/external HD partition with Lion. You just have to use "Show Package Contents" to access the .dmg. Hopefully Apple will make a more user-friendly way of making a hard backup, perhaps through the installer itself.
Everything I heard said this image is not bootable nor usuable as a recovery media/installation media.

Powerful system for sure but looking at this thing it seems the base unit is a workstation to me. The 7300 GPU is a $99 Gpu so I was surprised they went so low with the base graphics. Good thing you can build like you want it and they offer better GPu's but it wont be cheap. Cpu wise its kicks rear end just as its expansion now does and can hold 4 GPU's:eek: PowerMac is again a butt kicking machine. Twice as fast as old & slow quad G5 thats kind of funny. At least this gigantic tower can put things into all that space now:) There is a gigantic hole now for the user with a monitor. MacMini and ProMac......hmmmm when is the next show?
As a side note a AMD3500/6800GT combo will still hammer the base unit in Doom3:p

Yay let us all surrender our privacy to the cloud... Sometimes I feel like the only one that understands the long term implications cloud based computer has when we allow our content and log files on others' servers. Thankfully I know I'm not the only one though.
Here's to hoping they correct the obvious problems like notifications, poor photo organizational control, a corrected USB voltage, and a simple central file system (I know, not holding my breath).

Try using a calculator that uses the "/" instead of the divided by sign. You'll get 288. I tried it the way you did it on an old calculator and I got 2. But that's not the way it is in the OP. It's 48/2(9+3)

I wouldn't hold my breath, the Back to School iPod promo has always been a bait to help clear out old inventory. They won't make it available to buy, online or off, until after the promo ends.
This promo isn't to clear out Mac inventory, if anything it is to clear out iPod stock. If they hold back the Merom MBP just so I can't the free iPod I would be pissed and they would hear about it.

Samsung even copied the iphone 4 design for their Television Remote Control.
hmm. metal or metalish looking band around sleek black. Samsung = KIRF
To be a fly on the wall in their design meetings. hmm... lets copy the iphone. people like that design.
http://myiphonenews.com/they-say-imitation-is-the-greatest-form-of-flattery-so-samsung-must-loooove-the-iphone/
Also look and feel is the essence of these gadgets. These people aren't designing cars and rocketships. It's some simple glass and metal. The look and feel is all they got and it's those subtle differences that matter.
How it feels in your hand, the suble curves, how your hand interacts with the glass. Sounds dumb but i'm sure massive testing and trial and error goes into this. Well at least i'm sure it does at apple and then samsung copies it.

Thats some optimistic reading mister. Not VERY reliable, just reliable. And the report is not connected to the newest rumor, it's something they heard about earlier this year and they're unable to confirm that it applies to the 25th. Oh well, maybe you read another article than me?
You are right, they have no evidence to point to the event on the 25th. The 12in was reported by them in MARCH say "we may expect this new Mac Book Pro to arrive late in the second quarter of this year." That hasn't happened. I think they have already f-ed up this lead and are re-reporting it with the slim hope that it will happen.

Competition is good! Especially for Apple and their my way or the highway way of doing things. I love my IP4 but Apple needs a kick in their wallet to get them motivated to keep up.

It's bootable (the, ahem, pirated versions of Lion are distributed as dmgs.)
That doesn't mean the App Store version is. Only that the "pirated" versions are. They could have been made bootable after the fact.

Just ordered my Mac Pro!! :D
Quad 3Ghz, 4GB ram, 250GB HD + 500 GB HD, X1900 XT 512MB, Bluetooth+Airport, wireless keyboard and mouse, 1 Superdrive (holding out for BluRay) 30" ACD... $8264.23
Estimated Ship Time... 3- 5 Weeks
This is gonna be good.
I went Quad 3Ghz, 1GB Ram, 160GB HD, X1900XT, Bluetooth and Fibre-Channel, 2-Superdrives. Then I'll buy more RAM and a bigger hd when it gets here. I am sooooooooo pumped!

This is great and bad at the same time for me. I'm so happy that they'll finally move to Merom. However, I've been holding off an MBP since mid-April. I was really hoping to get one after WWDC. If it's true that they may launch it in September, I may not be able to get it in time for school, and the ipod rebate may be over.

I think the next Mac Pro refresh will be a huge milestone. Not only will it be the first case redesign in nearly a decade and add all the latest tech (USB3, sata III, thunderbolt, etc) but I believe Apple will take this opportunity to finally revise the pricing structure. Over the past few years, Apple has been making a clear shift towards the consumer market. Part of that is arguably negative ("dumbing things down") but the positive is more reasonable prices. The Mac Pro is the only computer left that hasn't been revised. My hope is that Apple will create a few models of the new Mac Pro, at least one of which is an affordable mid-range consumer tower starting under the the $2,000 mark.
Unfortunately, they will probably wait to use the new performance desktop/server sandy bridge CPUs which Intel won't have ready until Q4 2011 (or later). If that's true then we won't see these new beauties until 1H 2012. :(
Basically, what many of us have been asking / begging Apple to do; release an iMac w/o the display and with removable hard drives.

I would love to see an ultra high-res display sold by Apple. If they sold a 4K display for 2 grand I would certainly bite. Couple an awesome 4K display with 2 next gen video cards and you have yourself the best gaming machine ever built.
I can't wait. :D
You are talking :apple: pricing, then times that by 2 if not 3 and that is what they would sell a 4K display to you for. Think again, its not going to happen anytime soon. All this buzz is going to leave a lot of people disappointed since this is a new display model and nothing more. People do not sit a few inches from they computer monitor, they sit at a distance where you can barely notice the pixels on screen. Some screen have a poor quality compared to others and I know I have seen TN, PVA and IPS screens over my lifetime. I would prefer a 30" replacement matte LED as I am presently in the market for one.

I'm still unsure if this is good or bad given Apples dominance...

...obviously, is the rollout of a "Kindle Tablet" running Honeycomb.
The custom Amazon front end would have icons for:
Kindle Reading App (and Kindle Store)
Amazon Music Player (with cloud storage) and MP3 Store
Amazon Prime Streaming Video (and the Amazon Video Store)
Amazon Android App Store
Cloud Storage Manager
Some sort of Web Browser
And underneath that is Honeycomb. Maybe they throw in a free Amazon Prime subscription with purchase (free 2-day shipping on Amazon purchases).
Here would be Amazon leveraging all their strengths into a physical device that could seriously challenge the iPad in ways that no other vendor can, because it creates an Amazon "ecosystem" with the worlds biggest store for physical goods attached.
People like to shop.
Maybe that's why Google have put the lid on Honeycomb source availability - they've twigged that Amazon were going to use their latest OS to produce an Android killer :). Though I guess running Android doesn't exactly kill it... Hmm but Amazon are definitely encroaching as much into Google's turf as Apple's. Google are definitely going to be launching a digital locker soon, and knowing Google it will be very useful, very capacious, and very free (ish...).
Think we're seeing a battle between them, and Apple is on the sidelines wondering how they will compete and still sustain the locked down user expectations that generate their revenue. Interesting times....

But the new Mail app follows the same metaphor.
It looks like the iPad version, yes. But it doesn't try to emulate real-world objects, like Address Book and iCal look like an actual address book and calendar. (That would be awful--imagine rummaging through a "stack" of letters in a 3D-rendered mailbox. ;)

Steve does not have to announce any new products to say they are going to shift to Core 2 across the board ASAP. :)
That's very true but my response wasn't to that statement but to this one:
"MBP Merom anyone? Appleinsider has always been reliable...so this may happen. This WWDC is gonna be great!"
I assumed that WWDC is going to be great because of MPB Merom which I don't think will be announced. :p
I could be wrong.

Guess this will affect iPod, iPhone and iPad - I wonder if that is the reason why iPhone5 will be dlayed till fall or even next year. Not much good in hyping up new products if many of your core components are unobtainable. I imagine that it not just batteries that all manufacturers will have problems with.
The Japanese are resilient, but it will take years for them to fully recover.
