Thanks for responding so quickly, belvdr.
I am (vaguely) familiar with the OSI stack, but is there no way to differentiate on level 3/4 then, e.g. IP addresses and routes?
Put differently, what is the actual impact of unchecking the "Send all traffic over VPN connection"? With reference to for instance
http://blog.liip.ch/archive/2006/01/07/changing-default-routes-on-os-x-on-vpn.html
it seems that if the VPN service is below the Ethernet service in the ordered list in Network, the default route is not through the VPN connection. Does this not mean that I should be able to add a new route, include the IP ranges which Boxee, Hulu and Vudu access, and then have de facto differentiation between applications (although it actually happens on level 3/4)?
Looking forward to your response. I am definitely on thin ice here.

with my MBP im getting by with a 60GB SSD by OCZ (VERTEX 2) and the HD moved to the optical drive bay. Pushing the limit as far as free space goes (I have moved non-everyday applications to the HD) and like to have ~10GB Free if possible.

I remember the good old days of advantix, I thought it was great too for casual shots. I'd take the time and pick only the good pics you want to save then just scan a couple everytime you sit at the computer. Thats what i did for all my old prints, it may take awhile but doesn't cost anything, and you control the results.
cheers

That's what I decided to do. Pictures aren't super-great quality (I took terrible pictures in high school, it turns out,) so I doubt having them re-processed to a CD would make any difference. Scanning them in at 600dpi may be overkill, but there is a slight difference in quality I notice over 300dpi, and most images still end up being less than 2MB, about half the size of photos from my Canon PowerShot.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Whenever I've bought anything on the online Apple Store, the charges were exactly as listed on the page before I confirmed the order.

I was going to be there, but the Computer and Technology Store at the UA is selling it for much less at the same time, so I'm going there, since I'm a student! :)
Are you sure about that? The CATS online store wants to sell it to me for $116, but I am logged in as a staff member. Should I bribe a passing student to buy it for me?

One of my main reasons is iProtect. With this I can lock all the apps I don't want the kids (or any other unauthorized gawkers) getting into. Being able to use iFile ranks up there too.

I'd imagine the logo on Apple TV to be some kind of Vector, or some amalgamation that doesn't have the shading effects due to it needing to be displayed on different colours of background.
Thats my *guess*. I don't think its a whole new logo.

I would have gotten it if it were on steam for mac but it's only for windows.
I personally don't like gaming on a console.
Mouse and Keyboard is the way to go for me so I guess I won't be getting the game since it's not on mac. And I don't want to install windows.

I have a copy of MS Office 2008 Special Media Edition still sealed in box. It usually retails for $499 at the Apple store (I'll offer it for much less); how much are you looking to spend?
Let's work something out; let me know.
I was really not looking to spend a significant amount of money for one license: $75/ $80?

how much do these two cost? surely they are not free are they?
I've no idea how much they cost. My access is provided 'free' of charge by my university. If the OP is in university in the States, it almost certain that his/ her school provides access for its students.

Yeah that's how it is. You pay 3.99 for shipping, and if you don't send back your old one to them within 60 days- they charge you full price.
I was just wondering if they will/can void my warranty for getting too many replacements, and especially in a short period of time...

If I remember correctly, you should rebuild the LS database (the equivalent of rebuilding the desktop is OS 9). Download Panther Cache Cleaner, and it has an option to do so. That should fix it (correct me if I am wrong).

for a marketing guy he's doing really well. he's in a company that consistently values the idea of product marketing so much so that he gets quite a lot of face time during product launches. when was the last time you saw Dell, HP, Sony or any other consumer tech company's marketing exec come out and publicly say something?
also, as someone mentioned above, the highest paid positions are often finance and operations related due to the fact that CEOs are culled from the two departments. the general, and often mistaken, way of thinking is that a company survive without marketing and advertising... but knock out either finance or operations, you have a gimped company.
