Many get garbage 3G speeds on AT&T in many areas anyway, so what's the point of having a 4G iPhone that GSM provider (insert AT&T) in the US can't even support on a mass basis?

2 Mac Mini should still be very small
Imagine two Mac Mini back-to-back. That is how much desk-space the tower would consume. Now, it could be as high as four Mini's stacked on top of each other, so the volume would be eight times as much as the Mini has, but the actual space needed on the desktop would be just two Mini's worth.

What third world country are you living in, where 50% of computer users could never afford a Mac?
Havent looked at PC prices in awhile? Most PC's these days are less than $1000 and come with a monitor. The cheapest iMac is $1300 and doesnt have the same "desirability" that a tower has to people looking for the best bang for their buck (even though they are technically the same). Mini's are $600 and dont come with a monitor, keyboard, or mouse, they mainly appeal to old PC owners wanting to try a mac. PC's are very cheap these days, just take a stroll through dell's site to see what people can get for less than $800 and what Apple will need to do if they expect to compete.

I wonder if this new pricing scheme is being enabled by the record labels with lower wholesale pricing to Amazon (to try, yet again, to take power out of Apple's hands), or if Amazon is simply doing this at a loss?
Why would Amazon want to take a loss - to support non-Apple mp3 players?
For Apple, they are not making much, if any money - they always planned it as a break-even business - the real value was the content eco-system tied to their products (= value for customers).

I'm not sure. I'm going to be reserving at best buy in a few hours. If they have iPads, yay. If not at least I have $100 down.

Btw...Called Brea Apple store and they are not opening early for iPad sales as is rumored for other stores. At least thats what I was told. It could be a conspiracy :eek:

Mark my words, iPhone 5 will look similar to iPhone 4 and will be released later this year. It will carry the A5.
The A4 in the iPhone 4 is still perfectly capable and the phone is still one of the best on the market. The iPad got A5 and a redesign after a single generation because it really needed it, iPhone 4 does not, it was built to last and hold out for a while, possibly to skip/slip an upgrade date. The CDMA version is not long out the door and the white is due soon. The extra wait time will allow GSM/CDMA capability, perhaps even that LTE stuff androids seem to get wet over, in a single SKU. Maybe cheaper prices on NAND allowing higher capacities :).

Wouldn't matter anyway if you were using a ThunderBolt external hard drive. Very few mechanical hard drives can even reach 1Gbps-2Gbps. You'll need several of the fastest SSDs in RAID to even reach ThunderBolt speeds.

Mac OS X is so stable that I am perfectly comfortable working for an hour in between saving my open files. If I was likely to run into websites that purposely exploited a flaw to crash my Mac, I'd have to change my habits and live more defensively.

If you use a notebook or a desktop with a UPS, it can be extremely easy to forget about the fact that reboots may happen at any time, even without fautly software getting in the way. (Lately in Nova Scotia, the culprit has been "salty fog" invading our power substations...) Obviously this is a bug that can cause loss of work (and thus loss of money). And obviously the ultimate solution must be a more graceful failure response by the OS.
But a good stopgap measure to protect from the only potential damage which can so far be demonstrated to potentially come from this vulnerability, would be to enable the autosave feature of your software. That measure requires a one-time investment of effort on your part, and subsequently shouldn't have any effect on your work habits. I have never used any reputable productivity software which didn't have an autosave feature.

I know this does not have much to do with anything in this thread. I have heard Gates owns a some shares of Apple and was wondering how many or what percentage he owns. I have googled, ask jeeves, yahoo and searched this website for 45 minutes for the answer with no luck and thought you all in this thread could shed some light. Thanks for reading.

VMWare is going to smoke Parallels when it comes out. I can�t wait. I'm still a little bit miffed though that no one has gotten native partition support so we can use the same partition while virtualizing or dual booting.

Nothing as serious as a $1k purchase, but my (almost) two year old purchased an album from iTunes, by accident, on my iPad last week. I used the "report a concern" link that was on my receipt to report the problem. I got an email from an Apple rep the next day saying that they would give me a refund, but it would be a "one time exception."

The best way to avoid unintentional purchases is to use the Shopping Cart. That way, you can consolidate and review your selections carefully and buy them when you're ready. Here's how to use the Shopping Cart:

I've come across a way to get a refund without saying it was an accidental purpose, although in my two cases it was an actual error with the store that led to it. On two occasions I purchased some albums and it took my money, but the songs themselves refused to download and wouldn't even show up in my 'Available Downloads'. I had the receipt and they were added to my history, and after a few emails back and forth with store support (who were actually quite apologetic, for Apple) I got a refund. Then a few weeks later, randomly, the albums started downloading. Very weird situation, but I guess something went buggy briefly when I submitted my purchases - and I'm only posting this in case someone accidentally purchases stuff in the future, it seems that doing that is more likely to result in Apple issuing you your refund.
