Greetings,
In trying to fix the problem with uControl caused by upgrading to 10.3.8, I made it worse!
I tried the fix at http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1119697&group_id=87303&atid=582661. After entering everything into terminal the last 2 lines produced a strange behavior:
----
Eric-Cohens-Computer:~/Desktop/ucontrolfix/ucontrol1.4.4/src Eric$ make
-bash: make: command not found
Eric-Cohens-Computer:~/Desktop/ucontrolfix/ucontrol1.4.4/src Eric$ sudo make install
Password:
----
So then I got smart. I figured I'd uninstall uControl, and then install it again, and start over again cleanly. Duh! I found that with 10.3.8 installed, I can't even install the broken uControl, so now I can't even try the fix. Doh!
Can anyone help? Basically, I am on 10.3.8, wanting uControl, and I can't install it. Any suggestions? Do I have to just wait for the update? I fear that might be a while....
Thanks for any and all help!
Eric

we had our first meetup tonight, trying to get either 1) local interest fired up toward an existing MUG, or 2) starting a new MUG here in town. 9 of us met tonight, and hopefully we'll blossom into something strong.
Anyone else already doing this?

You can install 4GB but only 3.3GB will be visible to the OS.
Does that mean the system will only utilize the ram it sees or will it use all 4gb?

Could you not directly connect the two Mac's together with ethernet and then have them use their own Airport cards to connect to a different network? I'm not 100% sure if that would work, but seems like it could. When I need to transfer files to my wife's laptop I often plug it into my Mac Pro via ethernet and transfer the files. Meanwhile, I am still browsing the web on my Mac Pro via our WiFi network. The only difference there is that I'm sharing my internet from Airport to the laptop via ethernet, so I'm not sure if the laptop would still be able to use WiFi separately from the wired connection.

I had this same problem. To solve it, you should try installing fakecarrier (at least I think that's what it's called) and it will change your iPods carrier name.

Nice :-)
IMHO, Panther was the first real 100% usable Mac OS X version, not just for at home, but at the office too.

Okay, so I've been doing photography for almost two years now, which none of my cameras exceeding $200. Currently, I use a Samsung SL420, which is just a cheap $179 P&S.
Recently, though, I've been thinking about upgrading to a DSLR, and I'm wondering whether it'd be worth it for how good I am. I love my Samsung, but it infuriates me that the white balance settings are right next to the language settings.
Here are some pictures I've taken in the past year to judge whether I'm ready for this:

Most of these were completely unedited, by the way.
What do you think, guys? Am I good enough to upgrade? Or am I good enough now that I should just save the money?

Thank you Brad, I was actually looking at the hd 25s so I am glad you have given them a mention. With the small area the headphones seem to cover though I was worried that out and about you wouldn't quite get enough noise canceling?

If you have to ask these type of questions, you should just use OS X client. You can still run a "server" with the client.

Since the HD is going I could see it going for about $375-425.

Ok, I have found the answer to this one now, so here it is as no one seems to know it for Leopard.
First disable firewall or allow all incoming connections.
Network pane - advanced - TCP/IP
change DHCP to bootp and apply it all.
Connection will be lost. go back in, change it back to DHCP (no IP address will be assigned at this point. Apply.
Voila
Don't forget to put your firewall back to what it was.
I hope this will be useful for someone.
regards
Jonny

Ahh yes, I suppose I didn't say, it would be your first one, a more red vs blue thing. And yes I have it scripted out. Thanks for the advice both of you.

This could be a dumb question, but if I use Open SSH to replace certain system files (nothing major, stuff like dock/icons) and then delete OpenSSH, is this likely to create any problems?
Not sure, but I think it wouldnt affect anything except that you'll lose the privilege to view and edit them.

This is absolutely amazing. This could easily be frontpage news for more people to see. It would be great if more app devs got involved with this.

I have reason to believe my iphone4 has been hacked by my gf's ex-boyfriend, who is also a longtime friend of mine.
they dated a long time ago, he since been in a long term relationship with my current gf's ex-bff (they started dating only weeks after my gf and my friend broke up) iknw
Anyways, i was at dinner last night with my gf when she received a call from my phone, i assumed that i had butt dialed her, but as i combed through my various pockets it became evident to me that i had left my phone in my car.
When I retrieved my phone, which had been sitting innocently in my cars cup holder, I noticed that I had several dialed calls, incoming txts and missed calls to and from a number I did not recognize.
I found it quite perplexing . I showed the number to my gf, on the off chance she'd recognized it, seeing it was a local number...she did of course, it was the number of her most recent ex-bf, a firend of my "friend".
It was puzzleing, but then I remembered that my "friend" had been lurking my phone earlyer that day under the premise that he would find me a couple of apps I would like ( he has an iphone as well).
So that's the story, i guess my question would be how would it be possible for my phone to dial numbers by itself? also how is it possible for it to dial "random" numbers that aren't on my contact list?
My phone continues to do it at random times, usually it'll make several calls at the same time, sometimes the calls show up on the calling log, other times they don't
So what do you think, do I have the right to punch this kid in the face?

Not bad, but it appeared like the second line in all the text was smaller, especially when listing models. Should all be the same thing.

^^^ classic Mac games FTW!
This is also an example of a good 'in-between' Mac if you ever pick up an older machine that needs a bootable floppy to get it up and running.
